Industrial systems based on Operational Technology (OT) are used to operate and monitor processes that have a direct physical effect and can therefore pose a risk to people, property or the environment.

Some industrial systems use Information Technology (IT) but have not been designed to address the threats it involves. Moreover, the security solutions used in business computing are not always suited to the operation of industrial systems.
